They're not just for cooking anymore
**These "experiments" CAN be dangerous. Please have an understanding
of what you are dealing with (magnetron, electricity, fire,
etc.). Always wear protective goggles and gloves. When any fire
is involved, do it in a well ventilated area!
Just use some common sense and you'll be fine.
Yes, this too, can be your microwave.

Here are some fun things to do with your spare microwave oven. And please, do use a spare one.
Obvious ideas:
- Marshmallows
Marshmallows will expand many times their original size when microwaved, and still safe to eat even!
- Tin foil
This is where your microwave will become less attractive. For better
results, crumple up your foil so it has many jagged edges
(more places for electrical arching!). Electricity travels
through the path of least resistance, so the closer two pieces of metal
are, the more likely they are to produce visible reactions. The
picture on top of this page is a lucky shot using tin foil. VIDEO LINK
Not so obvious ideas:
- Grapes
Get a green (not purple!) grape, slice it in half. Put the flat side face up. Nuke it.
- An open flame
Take a small candle, a microwave safe glass container (like a
Pyrex measuring cup). Light the candle and put the glass
container over it. Start the microwave before the candle runs out
of oxygen to burn.
- Light bulbs
We first tried this with a strand of small Christmas (or
"Holiday") lights, with surprising success. The bulbs can be
burnt out and still produce results, as long as the glass is not broken
and there is still gas inside to react. VIDEO LINK FLIPPIN' SWEET VIDEO LINK
- A hamster
Well...just look here
- Compact Discs
CD-Rs seem to work the best for this. Just put them in and start it. VIDEO LINK
